Sciatic Nerve Pain, or Sciatica, is characterised by pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which extends from the lower back through the hips and down each leg. It is often caused by a compressed nerve, resulting in symptoms such as sharp pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness in the affected leg.
Sciatic nerve pain is commonly caused by conditions that put pressure on the sciatic nerve, such as a Herniated Disc, Spinal Stenosis, or Piriformis Syndrome. Injuries, poor posture, or degenerative disc disease can also contribute. Obesity, prolonged sitting, and a sedentary lifestyle are additional risk factors.
TCM can provide complementary support for managing sciatic nerve pain and enhancing quality of life. Dr. Goh TCM & Health Management takes a holistic approach that aims to balance the body’s energies, considering the harmony of Qi and the balance of Yin and Yang. Treatments are non-invasive and customized to each individual, incorporating therapies such as:
This treatment helps relieve sciatic nerve pain by restoring energy flow along the affected pathways, reducing inflammation, and promoting relaxation.
By targeting specific acupoints, Alignment Acupuncture helps to align the body’s energy channels, relieving nerve compression and alleviating pain.
Pain and inflammation is often caused by hormonal imbalance in the body. By utilising Dr. Goh’s VITEX cream, the proprietary formula helps the body’s hormones to better regulate itself promoting better balance and help to alleviate pain. This treatment also improves the efficacy of Qi Regulating and Alignment Acupuncture on easing sciatic nerve pain.
This treatment utilises Scalp Meridian Massage to target nerve pain and fascia tension. This approach may relieve Chronic Headaches, Migraines and Sciatic Pain, while also helping to alleviate symptoms associated with Cervical Spondylosis, such as neck pain and hand numbness.
This treatment releases tight fascia connecting tissues that is often the lead cause of sciatic pain, releasing muscle tightness and tension, enhancing flexibility, and providing relief from pain.
Alternative treatments for Sciatic Nerve Pain may include Acupuncture to relieve nerve compression, TCM herbs for inflammation, and physical treatment to strengthen muscles around the spine.
Sciatica can often be managed effectively, though underlying causes like Herniated Discs or Spinal Stenosis may require ongoing attention. Regular alternative therapies and lifestyle adjustments, such as posture improvement and core strengthening exercises, can help prevent recurrent pain.
People with sedentary lifestyles, those who lift heavy objects frequently, individuals with Obesity, and those with degenerative disc disease are at increased risk of developing Sciatica. Age also plays a role, as spine-related conditions become more common with age.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a comprehensive health and wellness treatment that has progressively developed over the years, backed by clinical and scientific research. For best results, it’s important to consult a certified medical doctor or specialist before beginning any treatment.
