Frozen shoulder, also known as Adhesive Capsulitis, is a condition characterized by stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint, limiting its range of motion. It typically develops gradually and can worsen over time, lasting for months or even years.
Frozen shoulder often result from prolonged immobility due to injury, surgery, or certain medical conditions like Diabetes. Inflammation of the shoulder capsule can lead to the thickening and tightening of connective tissues, restricting movement. Risk factors include age, gender (more common in women), and a history of shoulder injuries.
TCM offers supportive therapies that can help manage frozen shoulder symptoms and improve range of motion. Dr. Goh TCM & Health Management follows a holistic approach that aims to restore balance within the body, taking into account the harmony of Qi and the equilibrium of Yin and Yang. Treatments are non-invasive and customised to each patient’s specific needs, which may include the following:
This treatment helps improve circulation and reduces inflammation in the shoulder joint, relieving pain and stiffness.
By targeting specific acupoints, Alignment Acupuncture helps restore joint flexibility, reduce discomfort, and improve range of motion.
Pain and inflammation is often caused by hormonal imbalance in the body. By utilising Dr. Goh’s VITEX cream, the proprietary formula helps the body’s hormones to better regulate itself promoting better balance and help to alleviate pain. This treatment also improves the efficacy of Qi Regulating and Alignment Acupuncture on easing frozen shoulder pain.
This treatment utilises scalp meridian massage to target nerve pain and fascia tension. This approach may relieve chronic headaches, migraines and sciatic pain, while also helping to alleviate symptoms associated with Cervical Spondylosis, such as neck pain and hand numbness.
This treatment releases tight fascia connecting tissues that is often the lead cause of pain, releasing muscle tightness and tension, enhancing flexibility, and providing relief from pain.
Alternative treatments for frozen shoulders include Traditional Chinese Medicine Herbal Therapies, Acupuncture, and Physical Therapy focusing on shoulder mobility and strength. Heat treatment and gentle stretching exercises are often used alongside these treatments to improve flexibility and reduce stiffness.
Frozen Shoulders can be treated effectively, and many people regain full range of motion after several months of consistent treatment. Proper management, including physical treatment, can help prevent future issues, especially after an initial episode.
Those with Diabetes, Thyroid Disorders, recent shoulder injuries, or limited shoulder movement due to other conditions are at higher risk. Age and prolonged inactivity, such as after surgery, also increase the likelihood of Frozen Shoulder.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a comprehensive health and wellness treatment that has progressively developed over the years, backed by clinical and scientific research. For best results, it’s important to consult a certified medical doctor or specialist before beginning any treatment.
